No. 5 Texas at TCU postponed due to COVID-19 protocols
TX – No. 5 Texas’ layoff just got even longer.
The Big 12 on Monday announced it had postponed Saturday’s game between the Longhorns and TCU at Schollmaier Arena due to COVID-19 protocols within the Horned Frogs’ program. That came on the heels of a postponement of Wednesday’s Texas at Iowa State game.
Shortly after the postponements were announced TCU coach Jamie Dixon tweeted that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and has “begun self-isolation.”
Texas (11-2, 5-1 Big 12), which defeated Kansas State 82-67 last Saturday, is not scheduled to play again until a home matchup against Oklahoma on January 26. The 10-day break between games will be the Longhorns’ longest since a 13-day gap from December 20 (77-74 win over Oklahoma State) to January 2 (84-59 win at No. 3 Kansas).
Texas freshman Greg Brown, sophomore Kai Jones and junior Brock Cunningham were held out of the win over Kansas State due to COVID-19 protocols, though the program has not yet paused activities as TCU and Iowa State have.
Adding in a canceled game at Baylor on December 13, Texas has now had three conference games delayed due to COVID-19.
