PLANO, TX – Plano’s High Point Park Tennis Center’s new, two-story pro shop opened Monday as part of an ongoing, $5.8 million renovation project.

The new, 8,000-square-foot shop will allow the center to better serve a growing number of patrons, the city stated in an announcement.

“We expect our players will love the new features such as the viewing balconies, indoor social areas, larger restrooms, and renovated courts,” Ken Sumrow, head professional and director of the center, said in a prepared statement.

The former pro shop will be demolished to allow for the construction of an additional tennis court.

High Point Park Tennis Center opened to the public in February 1978. The current work is part of the first major renovation project for the center in its 42-year history, according to the city. Other improvements include updated fencing, windscreens and walkways. The new center court and playground are expected to be complete in early January. The entire project is expected to be finished in late February, weather permitting.

Plano voters approved the center’s renovation project through bond referendums in 2013 and 2017. A portion of the project was also funded through the parks and recreation and facilities capital maintenance fund budgets, Kelley Crimmins, a spokesperson for the parks department, stated in an email.

In June, the center added a pickleball professional to its coaching staff due to the sport’s local popularity.

Plano’s parks and recreation department maintains and operates the center, which is located at 421 W. Spring Creek Parkway.
