Gone in 20 seconds: Burglar make off with $50,000 in rings from a Plano jeweler
PLANO, TX – A burglar has been caught on tape stealing 76 rings worth $50,000 from Queen’s Jewelry in Legacy Drive Village.
Security cameras captured a man using a rock to smash the store’s glass door on Wed., Nov. 4,, KTVT-TV (Channel 11) reported. He then broke a glass jewelry case and grabbed the rings.
The owner, Charlie Nguyen, told the TV station he always removes jewelry from the store’s display cases every night. But this time he mistakenly left it out. Video shows that the case was covered before the burglar broke in and ripped it off.
The small, family-owned business has struggled to stay afloat during the pandemic and is now facing a major setback just before the holidays, according to the report. Since the jewelry wasn’t locked up, insurance will cover just 10% of the loss, Nguyen told the TV station.
