Biden’s Infrastructure Plan Will Create Jobs, Make Texas Grid More Resilient, Support Unions, and Help Keep Texans Safe

AUSTIN, TX— Texas Democrats are celebrating President Biden’s ambitious infrastructure plan as a win for working people everywhere. Announced Wednesday, President Biden’s American Jobs Plan will create Texas jobs, strengthen unions, and help make the Texas grid and public safety infrastructure more resilient.

With families everywhere struggling with the pandemic’s economic fallout, Biden’s massive investment will jumpstart the economy and help lower- and middle-income families get ahead. The President called the plan a “once-in-a-generation investment in America, unlike anything we’ve seen or done since we built the interstate highway system and the space race decades ago” — designed to create good jobs for hardworking Americans, while strengthening unions and ensuring corporations pay their fair share.

The plan includes major investments in key Texas infrastructure like ports, highways, and broadband expansion, which have gone without important upkeep because of Republicans’ lack of investment. President Biden’s plan will also make Texas more resilient in the face of multiple, overlapping crises. The American Jobs Plan will:

• Help protect the Gulf Coast and address racial disparities that put Latino and Black communities disproportionately at risk during disasters like hurricanes.

• Upgrade electrical grids, helping make sure power grids are resilient to prevent crises like the February power outages from happening again.

• Help tackle the climate crisis and buffer Texans from its effects — from harsher droughts affecting farmers to more severe hurricanes putting Texans in danger.
