Previewing the Elite 11 Dallas regional QB camp

SOUTHLAKE, TX — The Elite 11 quarterback camp tour continues Sunday with a stop in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area at Carroll High School, home of the perennial power Carroll Dragons, Texas Class 6A Division I state runner-up in 2020. Quarterbacks across several recruiting classes will showcase their talent in front of camp staff and media, which will include 247Sports.

Sunday’s camp marks the fourth stop on the Elite 11 tour following March events in Atlanta, Orlando, and Houston. Five quarterbacks have secured invitations to the Elite 11 Finals this summer: Miami four-star commit Jacurri Brown from Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes; Maryland three-star commit AJ Swann from Canton (Ga.) Cherokee; Texas A&M four-star commit Conner Weigman from Cypress (Texas) Bridgeland; LSU four-star commit Walker Howard from Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas More; and USC four-star commit Devin Brown from Queen Creek (Ariz.) High School

NATION’S NO. 1 PROSPECT HEADLINES EXPECTED COMPETITORS

Ohio State five-star commit Quinn Ewers is one of the numerous high-profile quarterbacks expected to compete in Sunday’s event. That’s particularly unsurprising considering that the camp will occur on his home campus at Southlake Carroll, which he led to a Texas Class 6A Division I state runner-up finish in 2020.

Ewers is ranked No. 1 overall on the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and Top247 rankings. Ewers missed six games in the middle of the 2020 season, but came back to lead Carroll’s playoff run. In eight games total, Ewers threw for 2,442 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions, while rushing for 133 yards and three TD’s.

SIX POWER 5 COMMITS TO COMPETE

Ewers is not the only big name to know. Clemson four-star commit Cade Klubnik, whose Austin Westlake team topped Southlake Carroll in the 6A D-I state championship game in January, is expected to compete. Klubnik is a top 100 prospect on the 247Sports Composite and the Top247.

Klubnik threw for almost 3,500 yards, 35 touchdowns, and three picks, adding 583 yard and 15 scores on the ground in Westlake’s championship run. His one INT in every 117.67 pass attempts represented the best INT rate of any Top247 quarterback.

Oklahoma State three-star commit Garret Rangel, Florida three-star commit Nick Evers, Virginia Tech three-star commit Alex Orji, and Colorado three-star commit Owen McCown are also expected to compete. A number of notable uncommitted three-star quarterbacks are also players to watch, such as Braedyn Locke, Richard Torres, Josh Hoover, and Brandon Tennison.
