Another COVID-19 death reported in county

PLANO, TX – The COVID-19 virus claimed another life in Rockwall County during the past week, even as the numbers of those vaccinated continues to increase.

More than 1,800 Rockwall County residents were vaccinated against COVID-19 during the past week, with eight of ten of the county’s older residents now having received at least one dose.

The report from the Rockwall Office of Emergency Management indicated there had been 9,348 cumulative cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, an increase of 39 cases in one week’s time.

The report also noted there had been 9,168 estimated recoveries, representing an increase of  49 individuals within the previous seven days.

There had been 155 deaths reported in Rockwall County due to COVID-19 as of Tuesday, one more than one week earlier and four more than what had been reported two weeks before.

According to the county’s report, 12 people were in Rockwall County hospitals due to the virus as of Monday, a decrease of four patients in one week’s time. However, four of those of those patients were listed in ICU, three more than one week earlier.

As of Tuesday, 45,401 Rockwall County residents had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, an increase of 1,865 vaccinations during the previous week.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported that as of Tuesday, 54.85% of Rockwall County residents aged 16 or older had received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 37.44% being fully vaccinated.

The state agency’s report indicated that 80.66% of those residents in Rockwall County aged 65 and above had received at least the first dose of the vaccine, with 66.91% of the older population having been fully vaccinated as of Tuesday.
