Can a Neighborhood-Led Plan Curb Gentrification in West Dallas?
DALLAS, TX – Raul Reyes Jr. has lived in West Dallas his whole life. He has roots there. His mother and father, Raul and Juanita, immigrated to the city in the ’60s and became homeowners in West Dallas in 1979, eventually buying several other properties in the area.
Reyes Jr. was one of six children the couple raised in West Dallas. He’s now bringing up his own kids in the same community.
“Whether my dad knew it or not, he started a plan,” Reyes Jr. said. “He started a family plan. From a real simple perspective, that plan becomes: How do you keep what you work hard for?”
