Cowboys hosting Plano West in lacrosse season opener
PLANO, TX – Exactly eight days ago, the Coppell boys lacrosse team was supposed to open its season against a talented The Woodlands team out of north Houston. The Cowboys were meant to follow that performance up by traveling to Rockwall on Friday. Both games were canceled due to inclement weather and the Cowboys had to sit in angst to finally begin their lacrosse season.
“I’m so ready just to get on the field, put on that jersey, run around with my teammates and make my family and the city proud,” Coppell senior midfielder Andrew Sullivan said. “It’s been a long time since we’ve stepped onto the field and I know that myself and the rest of the team are ready to go, we’ve been ready.”

The message throughout the offseason was that the Cowboys were going to physically dominate teams, not letting opponents battle with them the way they did last season.
“We have had strength trainers come out [to our practices] twice a week to work on our condition strength and physical strength while also working on stick skills and fundamentals as a team,” Coppell senior midfielder Bain Carter said. “We want to be a physical team this year when we are out on the field.”
The message from seniors and Coppell coach Matt Mueller has been to focus on perfecting Coppell’s game, paying less attention to the opponents and coming out strong from the beginning.
“The message has just been for us to go out and play our game, it doesn’t matter who we’re playing that week really,” Carter said. “We know our matchups that we need to go into this game against, other than that, we’re just going to go out there and play our game.”
