Emergency supplies exempt from Texas sales tax this weekend
PLANO, TX – Just in time for spring storm season, Texans can take advantage of a sales tax holiday for emergency supplies this weekend.
Batteries, first aid kids, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors, and more are all on the tax-free list, and there is no limit on the number of qualifying items you can buy. Portable generators less than $3,000 are included on the list.
Emergency supplies help Texans cope with natural disasters, including during severe weather season and hurricane season.
“It’s always best to be prepared,” said Van Alstyne Fire Department Capt. Cody Hendricks. “As soon as you’re not prepared, then you’re going to realize it in the middle of it. It would be best to go ahead and take advantage of this tax-free and save a little bit of money.”
The tax-free holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, April 24, and ends Monday at midnight. Buyers will save around $8 for every $100 of qualifying merchandise.
