Gov. Abbott says they are going to start arresting, jailing border crossers in Texas

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott went scorched earth on Joe Biden over his failure at the U.S.-Mexico border.

During an interview on Fox News, Abbott told host Sean Hannity that officials are going to start arresting and jailing border crossers in Texas.

“I don’t think this has ever happened before where a disaster declaration was made for border counties because of the influx of people coming across the border. But I did because we are about to change the way that Texas addresses the challenges on the border, and we are going to start by helping these 34 counties respond by increasing arrests,” Abbott said.

“We’ve got a new game in the state of Texas that’s going to begin next week, and that’s we’re going to start arresting,” he continued before Hannity jumped in.

“Governor, why can’t you just say, ‘You’re not allowed in,’ and just protect the border and say, ‘Go back?’” Hannity asked Abbott.

“I’ll be very clear with you, Sean. And you may remember this, I know you did interviews on this more than a decade ago when you talked to Jan Brewer. When Jan Brewer was governor of Arizona, Arizona passed laws that did exactly that, where they would send people back and they would not accept people,” Abbott said.

“And the law that Arizona passed went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in a case called Arizona V. the United States, where the United States Supreme Court said Arizona does not have that. You know the attorney general that I used to be, and so I followed the law and the law that I’m going to use will be legal ways in which Texas is going to start arresting everybody coming across the border,” he added.

Abbott continued: “Not just arresting them, but because this is not going to be aggravated trespass, they are going to be spending a half a year in jail, if not a year in jail, as well as other actions that I will be announcing next week.”

Over the weekend it was reported that U.S. Border Patrol agents found 173 illegal immigrants at “stash houses” in one town alone.

The agents found the migrants in the Rio Grande Valley Sector in multiple human smuggling stash house operations over the weekend.

Agents took the migrants into custody and processed them under CBP guidelines.

Earlier this week, Abbott went scorched earth on Joe Biden over his failure at the U.S.-Mexico border.

During an interview on Fox News, Abbott blamed Biden for “open borders” and ignoring a growing surge of deadly fentanyl at the southern border.

“Open-border Biden is what is bringing this in … I’ve got to tell you, I’m angry but more importantly, we have farmers and ranchers and residents in those areas that are extremely angry,” Abbott said.

The governor said “most of this fentanyl does not stay in Texas” but is being distributed nationwide.

“It takes just two milligrams in order to kill somebody,” Abbott said. “This is going to be a deadly, dangerous situation across the country. Deaths that are caused by Biden’s open-border administration.”

“The situation right now is far more dire and far more dangerous than it has ever been during the course of at least this century, maybe ever before,” he continued.

Abbott claimed he has heard “nothing from the president, nothing from the vice president, nothing from [Department of Homeland Security] Secretary [Alejandro] Mayorkas. They have their heads in the grounds as it concerns these dangers … They don’t want to do anything about it.”

Abbott said, “at the higher levels in the Biden administration, they are completely tone-deaf and non-responsive to this deadly situation.”
