PLANO, TX — For many families across Texas, the holiday season is not a happy time of the year. Several people won’t have enough food to eat this holiday season, and the pandemic has put a lot of people in a tough economic spot this year.
Food pantries across the state are also feeling the strain, but media icon Oprah Winfrey is trying to make the holidays a bit brighter for Texas families.
Winfrey tweeted she made a donation to Minnie’s Food Pantry in Plano, Texas, and is encouraging others to give what they can.
“This year a lot of people are feeling food insecurity, so I’m proud to support them with another donation to help them keep helping,” Winfrey said in her tweet.
Minnie’s Food Pantry, founded by Cheryl Actions Jackson, provides food and educational resources to families in need.
This isn’t the first time Winfrey has donated or raised money for the nonprofit. According to its website, in 2018, Winfrey teamed up with Jackson, to raise $1.3 million to help feed families in Texas.
