Plano ISD ‘Grant Patrol’ surprises 50 teachers with more than $60,000 in education foundation awards

PLANO, TX – The Plano ISD Education Foundation 2020 “Grant Patrol” recently awarded 50 grants totaling $60,700 to teachers across the district.

The teachers were surprised at their schools on Wednesday by foundation board members, Plano ISD trustees, program sponsors, district staff and parent leaders, who delivered the awards.

“Socially distanced cheers and tears of happiness were the common theme as teachers stepped outside to the front of the school where the surprise news awaited,” the district said in an announcement.

The Grants to Educators program is designed to help the district’s teachers enhance instruction in schools and classrooms, according to the district.

Several weeks ago, educators began applying for grants to fund innovative programs. Volunteers judged the applications on criteria such as expected results, how the money will be spent and how it fits with the district’s strategic plan.

The grants are funded through the foundation’s fundraisers such as the SKI Plano event, communitywide Honor Roll Annual Campaign, North Texas Giving Day and the Plano ISD employee campaign.
