Plano police holding free personal safety webinar

PLANO, TX – Wouldn’t it be great if there was an accurate way of telling if someone is safe or they’re dangerous?

That is one of the topics that Plano Police Officer Chris Bianez, with the department’s Crime Prevention Unit, will be addressing in an upcoming seminar. The free personal safety webinar on Zoom set for Tuesday, April 13, at 7 p.m. can be registered for online.

Bianez gave a glimpse into some of what he will be covering, including how criminals pick their targets and strategies to reduce the chance you will be a victim.

For instance, appearances and a charming personality can be deceiving, as some of history’s most notorious serial killers have proven, he said, pointing to famous examples like Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and Dennis Raider, who gave himself the moniker Bind, Torture, Kill (BTK).

Another key lesson: if your intuition tells you something about a personis not right, trust it.

“The best weapon you can have is your intuition,” Bianez said. “It can tell you things that you cannot prove nor understand with your eyes and ears.”

Your intuition can literally save your life, according to Bianez.

“Never leave home without your situational awareness,” he said. “Being aware of your surroundings with the use of your eyes and ears can inform you of who is in your environment and alert you to possible dangers.”

The Zoom link for the event will be sent to attendees via the email used for registration 24 hours prior to the webinar. The seminar contains mature subject matter and would not be appropriate for children under age 11, according to an announcement for the event.
