Plano police hosting discussion of mental health in the criminal justice system
PLANO, TX – The Plano Police Department’s Victim Advocate Unit is hosting a virtual panel discussion on mental health courts and how they can help people in the criminal justice system and their families.
The free seminar takes place on Thurs., Dec. 3 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and will be hosted by Jessica Serrano of the police department’s Victim Advocate Unit, according to an announcement by the department. The event is open to the public, but you must sign up online.

Topics will cover understanding the Collin County Mental Health Counsel and the Veterans Court programs. Panelists will include Brennan Jones, program manager of North Texas Regional Veterans Court and VALOR; Alyse Ferguson, mental health managed counsel chief attorney; and Marisa Dunagan, Collin County District Attorney chief felony prosecutor.
The purpose of the seminar, according to an announcement, is to “work to educate the community related to mental health and how we can help.”
Social workers who attend will be offered a continuing education unit credit.
