St. Luke United Methodist to host COVID-19 vaccination event in South Dallas

DALLAS, TX – Adults living in South Dallas can receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Friday at St. Luke “Community” United Methodist Church.

The church is partnering with Project Unity and Catalyst Health Network to offer the free doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The drive-through site will operate from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the church, 5710 E. R.L. Thornton Freeway.

To take part, people must sign up ahead of time and bring a valid ID, as well as a copy of their appointment registration. People must also wear face masks and follow social distancing measures. The site won’t accept walk-up appointments or people hoping to receive their second dose of the vaccine.

Volunteers are welcome to help greet guests and direct traffic.

Friday’s event is part of community leaders’ latest efforts to inoculate residents in the most hard-hit neighborhoods in Dallas. While surrounding areas have some of the highest COVID-19 infection rates, only 16% of residents who live within 75223, where St. Luke’s is located, had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of March 16, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
