The state also added 26 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 48,211.
Of the new cases, 1,516 were confirmed and 209 were probable. Of the older cases, 42 were confirmed and five were probable.
The state’s case total is now 2,817,869, including 2,422,139 confirmed and 395,730 probable.
There are 2,822 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 536 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Saturday, 3.38% of patients in the hospital region covering the Dallas-Fort Worth area were COVID-19 patients — below the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations.
The seven-day average positivity rate statewide for molecular tests, based on the date of test specimen collection, was 5.52% as of Saturday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 2.48%. A molecular test, sometimes called a PCR test, is considered more accurate; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.
According to the state, 9,186,322 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 5,613,265 — 25% of the state’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Tarrant County
Tarrant County reported one death and 145 cases Sunday.
The latest victim was a Fort Worth man in his 40s who had underlying health conditions.
Of the new cases, 137 were confirmed and eight were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 253,017, including 213,265 confirmed and 39,752 probable. The death toll is 3,356.
According to the county, 152 people were hospitalized with the virus as of Friday.
According to the state, 529,807 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 370,293 — 22.9% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Dallas County
Dallas County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays. Figures that previously would have been reported Sunday will be released Monday.
As of Saturday, the county’s overall case total was 293,934 — 253,889 confirmed and 40,045 probable. The death toll was 3,697.
The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 273. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 268.
According to the state’s data, 800,111 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 466,614 — 23% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully immunized.
Collin County
The state added 75 new cases to Collin County’s totals Sunday. The state did not add any new deaths.
The county’s case total is 87,709, including 72,651 confirmed and 15,058 probable. The death toll is 805.
According to the county, 92 people are hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 362,133 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 221,574 — 27.6% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Denton County
Denton County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays.
As of Friday, the county had a total of 72,583 COVID-19 cases, including 53,763 confirmed and 18,820 probable. The death toll stood at 476.
According to the state, 248,874 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 176,592 — 25.3% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day. The latest numbers are:
- Rockwall County: 11,211 cases (9,135 confirmed and 2,076 probable), 151 deaths.
- Kaufman County: 15,591 cases (13,115 confirmed and 2,476 probable), 247 deaths.
- Ellis County: 22,252 cases (18,649 confirmed and 3,603 probable), 309 deaths.
- Johnson County: 19,429 cases (16,597 confirmed and 2,832 probable), 361 deaths.
