Texas adds no new coronavirus deaths, 650 more cases; Tarrant County reports 2 deaths

PLANO, TX – Across the state, 650 more coronavirus cases were reported Sunday, including 595 new cases and 55 older ones that labs recently reported.

No new COVID-19 deaths were reported. The death toll stands at 49,877.

Of the new cases, 388 were confirmed and 207 were probable. Of the older cases, 36 were confirmed and 19 were probable.

The state’s case total is now 2,919,889, including 2,497,892 confirmed and 421,997 probable.

There are 2,199 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 459 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Saturday, 2.96% of patients in the hospital region covering D-FW were COVID-19 patients — below the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations.

The seven-day average positivity rate statewide for molecular tests, based on the date of test specimen collection, was 3.9% as of Saturday. For antigen tests, the positivity rate for the same period was 2.99%. A molecular test, sometimes called a PCR test, is considered more accurate; an antigen test is also called a rapid test. Gov. Greg Abbott has said a positivity rate above 10% is cause for concern.

According to the state, 11,821,141 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 9,344,696 — 41.7% of the state’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported two deaths and 147 cases Sunday. The state’s reporting of deaths lags behind that of some counties.

Details about the latest deaths were not immediately available.

Of the new cases, 61 were confirmed and 86 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 259,360, including 217,373 confirmed and 41,987 probable. The death toll is 3,471.

According to the county, 162 people were hospitalized with the virus as of Friday.

According to the state, 804,695 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 653,245 — 40.4% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Dallas County

Dallas County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays. Figures that previously would have been reported Sunday will be released Monday.

As of Saturday, the county’s overall case total was 301,511 — 259,369 confirmed and 42,142 probable. The death toll was 3,978.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 183. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 244.

According to the state’s data, 1,068,714 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 830,251 — 40.9% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully immunized.

Collin County

The state added 104 new cases to Collin County’s totals Sunday. The state did not add any new deaths.

The county’s case total is 90,984, including 74,720 confirmed and 16,264 probable. The death toll is 831.

According to the county, 76 people are hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 501,254 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 404,632 — 50.5% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County officials no longer report new coronavirus data on Sundays.

As of Friday, the county had a total of 75,364 COVID-19 cases, including 55,387 confirmed and 19,977 probable. The death toll stood at 536.

According to the state, 393,081 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 322,413 — 46.2% of the county’s population 16 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day. The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 11,579 cases (9,312 confirmed and 2,267 probable), 154 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 16,125 cases (13,425 confirmed and 2,700 probable), 259 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 22,859 cases (18,954 confirmed and 3,905 probable), 312 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 19,644 cases (16,626 confirmed and 3,018 probable), 367 deaths.
