TX– Texas A&M will face Vanderbilt in the opening game of the SEC tournament in Nashville, Tenn., at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The Aggies (8-9, 2-8 SEC) are the No. 13 seed in the tournament while the Commodores (8-15, 3-13) are the No. 12 seed. A&M is seeded last because it did not “meet the two-thirds average of conference games played by all conference teams,” according to the league.

The Aggies did not play a game in February because of COVID-19 issues within the program. The SEC has 14 members, but Auburn (13-14, 7-11) is not participating in the postseason because of a self-imposed ban prompted by an NCAA investigation involving former assistant Chuck Person.

Alabama is the top seed in the SEC tournament followed by Arkansas, LSU and Tennessee. The winner of Wednesday’s A&M-Vanderbilt game will face No. 5 seed Florida on Thursday, one of four games in Bridgestone Arena that day. The title game is scheduled for noon Sunday.
