Texas COVID-19 Cases Top 2-Million Since the Pandemic Began
TX – Texas coronavirus cases have now topped two-million since the pandemic first struck the state in early March, state officials reported Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a backlog of pre-holiday death certificates reported to the state Wednesday swelled to unprecedented levels the daily Texas death count from COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus.
The 26,808 new cases reported Wednesday raised the total case count to 2,022,635, the Texas Department of State Health Services reported.

The state reported an unprecedented 405 COVID-19 deaths Wednesday, but that included a backlog of death certificates dating from Dec. 8 to Jan. 11, said department spokesman Douglas Lovelady. The record number remained 278 COVID-19 deaths occurring July 23, he said.
