Texas Health Raised More Than $27,000 for March of Dimes

DALLAS, TX – According to March of Dimes, “Each year in the U.S., close to 380,000 babies are born too soon (or arrive before 37 weeks gestation). With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color. The national average for preterm birth rates is currently 10%, and it happens to be 11% for babies born in Texas. March for Babies: A Mother of a Movement dedicates itself to lifting up communities, creating connections, and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby are healthy.”

The March for Dimes is an annual fundraising movement that seeks to combat these statistics. Texas Health Resources has joined thousands of compassionate teams across the country to support this worthy cause by hosting awareness walks and other activities at several campuses. As a proud Gold Sponsor, Texas Health has raised more than $33,000 (and counting): more than $28,000 from Texas Health Dallas and more than $5,000 from Texas Health Plano. Members of the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas – Jim Parobek, president; Elizabeth Asturi, M.S.N., R.N., NE-BC, chief nursing officer; Aurora Estevez, M.D., chief medical officer, and several employees, who have collectively walked 26 miles. Members of Presbyterian Hospital Plano – Josh Floren, president; Steve Hadzima, M.D., chief medical officer; and Laura Massey, M.H.A., B.S.N., R.N., CPN, chief nursing officer have completed 5 miles.

The money raised for March of Babies will help push for newborn screening and health insurance for all pregnant women and children, all-important support research offering preventions and solutions for babies too soon or with congenital disabilities, provide comfort and information to families with a newborn in intensive care and educate women on things they can do to increase their chances of having a healthy baby.
