The Dallas Independent School District will require students and teachers on district property to wear face masks starting on Tuesday
DALLAS – According to the statement, the new rule is in defiance of the order put out by Gov. Greg Abbott.
The president of the Dallas school board said that he supports the mask requirement.
The Dallas Independent School District is the first district in the state to require masks despite the state order.
In May, Abbott prohibited the Texas Education Agency and public schools from requiring masks, and violators are subject to a fine of up to $1,000.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends mask usage in schools.
