This Oak Cliff ZIP code has reached 80% herd immunity against COVID-19

DALLAS, TX – While Dallas County inches closer to herd immunity, one section of Oak Cliff is among the 12 Dallas-area ZIP codes that have already hit the threshold through COVID-19 vaccinations, according to the Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation.

An area is considered to have reached herd immunity when 80% of residents have either been vaccinated or recovered from infection.

The 75208 ZIP code stretches from North Oak Cliff to a sliver of West Dallas. It is framed by North Beckley Avenue, Hampton Road, Wright Street and West Commerce Street. Its population 66% Latino, 26% white and 6% Black. The median household income is $63,277, slightly below the area average.

As of Wednesday, Dallas County had reached 64% herd immunity. More than 35% of the county population has been vaccinated against COVID-19.

It will be some time before the county reaches the coveted threshold, possibly as late as mid-July because of slowing COVID-19 vaccination rates.
