Twin toddlers have been found dead after being left in a car for over 9 hours outside a South Carolina daycare. Identical twins Bryson and Brayden McDaniel, who were 20 months old, were found Wednesday evening by one of their parents when they arrived at their daycare. EMS were called but the infant boys were pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s thought the children were put in the car at around 7.30 a.m. the same morning, Coroner Naida Rutherford said.

When officers arrived on the scene at Sunshine House – where the twins were students – they found one of the car’s windows broken.

The heat-related illness hyperthermia is being investigated as a possible cause of death; their current listed cause of death is “pending further studies,” the coroner said.

The coroner added that further investigations showed the twins were well taken care of by their family and had no signs of abuse.

When asked if the parent may have forgotten the twins were in the car, Rutherford said, “I will tell you this, we have two very distraught parents.”

Officers said at this time, it’s unclear if there is any involvement by the staff of Sunshine House. There have been no charges filed in the twins’ death.
