PLANO, TX – Plano police officers recently responded to a call to check the welfare of a homeless man — and the encounter led to an unexpected act of kindness.

“Our officers spoke to the man and offered to provide him assistance,” the police department wrote in a Facebook post Monday. “As often happens, he advised he was fine and refused our help.”Tracker

A dispatcher later made the police department aware that Officer David Hogan noticed that the man’s shoes were so worn that they were shredded.

After finishing the call, Hogan bought the man — who reportedly walks everywhere — a new pair of shoes.

“This is just another example of the kind acts law enforcement officers do on a regular basis, but we rarely hear about it,” the post says. “We don’t do this for recognition, we do it because we care.”

The department went on to thank Hogan for his kindness and empathy.

“We are proud to have you as a member of the Plano Police Department and serving ALL members of our community,” the post says.
