AT&T Stadium Looks to Host Largest Blood Drive in Texas This Sunday

PLANO, TX – Not long after Carter BloodCare put out a call urging donors to give blood as supply reaches critical lows, an athletic footwear retailer and international nonprofit are teaming up to host what they hope will become the largest blood drive in Texas.

WSS and the International WeLoveU Foundation will be at AT&T Stadium on Sunday from 9 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. to host the Dallas Blood Drive. This is the second blood drive both organizations have hosted together — the first, which took place in Los Angeles earlier this year, brought out over 600 donors and collected enough pints of blood to save over 1,800 lives.

They are looking to have a similar impact in the Fort Worth-Dallas area.

“The need for blood is ongoing and even more so during the COVID-19 pandemic due to cancellation of blood drives and implementation of physical distancing,” Dr. Sam Ho of the WeLoveU Foundation said in a statement.

The “grand finale” of WeLoveU’s three-month-long National Blood Drive Campaign, Sunday’s event is expected to exceed 800 donors in one day, in large part due to the local WeLoveU volunteers who have already pledged to donate. Carter BloodCare, which serves 56 Texas counties with 20-plus donor centers, will be the primary beneficiary. Other supporters of the event include Baylor Scott & White Health and Papa John’s Pizza.

“During the last year that we’ve all endured, we’ve all looked to offer help to our local communities as much as we can,” said Dallas Cowboys executive vice president/chief sales and marketing officer Jerry Jones, Jr. “So, on behalf of the Jones family and the Dallas Cowboys, and in partnership with such great organizations as WSS and the International WeLoveU Foundation, it is our great honor to open the doors of AT&T Stadium in Arlington to host a blood drive of this magnitude to help so many in need in our local Texas communities.”

Other places that have played host to WeLoveU’s National Blood Drive this year include California, New York, and Puerto Rico. According to WeLoveU, more than 1,320 pints of blood have been donated, saving over 4,170 lives.
