Texas Democrats’ Statement On Eid al-Fitr
AUSTIN, TX — Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement as Texans celebrate Eid al-Fitr:
“I wish a happy Eid al-Fitr to all those celebrating today. Marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, Eid is a time for community and celebration after a month of fasting and spiritual reflection.
“This observance is also a chance to honor the values at the heart of Islam — from service and generosity to peace and compassion. Over the last year, Muslim Texans have shown the best of those values — from being there for neighbors in need during the pandemic, to lending a hand in our communities during the winter storm.
“This past year, our state and our country have endured immense hardship due to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic and the wave of anti-Asian hate that followed it. Like so many celebrating Eid al-Fitr today, the celebration reminds us of our continued commitment to compassion, gratitude and generosity. Texas is a great place to live, work and raise a family because we value the protections of religious and civil freedoms and the contributions of so many cultures. Muslims in Texas are diverse and come from all backgrounds and our state would not be the same without the invaluable contributions of Muslim Americans who have made our communities richer and stronger. On behalf of all Democrats in Texas, Eid Mubarak!”
