Disgraced Dallas area teacher Mercedes Genevieve Coloso arrested, charged with molesting student

DALLAS, TX – Dallas authorities have arrested a middle school teacher on allegations that she preyed upon a young student, The Dallas Morning News reports.

Mercedes Genevieve Coloso, 32, is a teacher at the local Coppell Independent School District.

She was arrested on Monday morning.

Coloso was arrested on charges of sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child, and an improper relationship between a teacher and student.

It remains unclear whether the teacher has retained an attorney.

Mercedes Genevieve Coloso was a teacher at Coppell Middle School North.

Coppell is located in the northern suburbs of Dallas, southeast of Grapevine lake.

The district fired Coloso shortly after her arrest and said she will not be allowed on any Coppell ISD campus or facility in the future.

Mercedes Genevieve Coloso has been summarily banned from stepping foot on the property of the school where, until her arrest, she was a teacher.

The tip about her alleged sexual abuse of the student came in last week.

The police investigated the matter and then moved to arrest Coloso, Fox 4 KDFW reports.

They did not provide any details about the case or the juvenile victim.

As for the school district where Mercedes Genevieve Coloso was a teacher, a representative said they only found out about her alleged misdeeds on Saturday.

The district issued a statement on the matter.

“The Coppell Police Department has arrested a Coppell Middle School North employee for an inappropriate relationship with a minor,” the statement read. “CISD has terminated this person’s employment with the district, and this individual will not be allowed at Coppell Middle School North or any district campus or facility.”

CBS DFW reports that the statement about the disgraced teacher, Mercedes Genevieve Coloso, continued: “CISD also has reported this alleged incident to the State Board of Educator Certification and Child Protective Services, as required by law and district policy. Coppell ISD holds its employees to the highest standards and is deeply saddened and outraged about this situation. Federal privacy laws prohibit the district from releasing additional details about this situation.”
