PLANO, TX – As it continues reopening city facilities, Plano is using an independent certification system to verify COVID-19 safety protocols are being followed.

Haggard Library recently joined other Plano facilities that have been given the Bureau Veritas SafeGuard Label, according to a city news release. The testing and inspection services company Bureau Veritas has been tasked with checking that the city has addressed potential risks specific to the library’s operation and is following strict hygiene standards.

The safety measures in place at Haggard Library are also being followed at all library locations, according to the city.

As a result, the city is opening library locations for “grab and go” services. Patrons are now able to go to the library and browse materials and pick up items they’ve placed on hold using a self-checkout system. Face coverings are required at all times.

Grab and go times are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Additional information is available on the Plano Public Library website.

Computer access is also available on a first-come first-served basis and is limited to one two-hour session per day. There will be no seating or in-house programs, and kids’ play areas and meeting rooms will remain closed.

Other city facilities that have received the label from the third-party inspection service include the Jack Carter Pool, Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center and Plano Municipal Center.

The criteria used for the SafeGuard labels involve detailed safety guidelines designed to prevent risk. It also requires that employees be trained on hygiene practices and protocols, according to Bureau Veritas’ website.

The certification process begins with an initial review of hygiene protocols and operational requirements, including surface testing. Once the criteria is met, the SafeGuard label is issued and displayed. Additional unannounced auditing and testing will also be done to ensure ongoing compliance, according to the city.
